History
CitiHope International was founded in 1985 as CitiHope Radio Ministry. Fueled by the hope of Christ, CitiHope Radio aired daily in New York City, providing a vital “compassionate connection” between urban ministries and donors. CitiHope was active in the fight against hunger, homelessness and neglect, and through its radio program provided Easter Bags to children, Boxes of Love to families and Homeless Comfort Kits to thousands of needy New Yorkers.
A 1989 New York Times report on the Chernobyl accident prompted CitiHope’s President Paul Moore to visit the former Soviet Union with his son Paul Moore II and friend Michael Christensen. Their trip brought them face-to-face with the catastrophic health care crisis in Belarus caused by exposure to radioactive contaminants.
Visiting Minsk Oncology Center and seeing children with advanced stages of leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease and thyroid lymphomas, with little or no medicine for treatment, led CitiHope to dedicate itself to saving the lives of children in Belarus.
In the years that followed, CitiHope Radio changed its focus internationally and became CitiHope International. Under the leadership of Rev. Paul Moore and his son Paul Moore II, CitiHope International has touched 5 continents with medicine and food relief, modern training for healthcare professionals, and – most importantly – the hope of Christ.
