Description
Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, Inc. (HFHSA) is an ecumenical Christian non-profit housing organization working in partnership with God’s people in need to build modest, decent and affordable houses without interest or profit, thereby witnessing God’s love in action. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Habitat works with very low-income families whose total income is generally 20% – 70% of the area median income. Families are accepted to the Habitat program based on their need, ability to pay a 0% interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner. Applicants must be residents of Bexar County. Families spend a minimum of 300 hours investing in “sweat equity” where they support and help build their own house and that of their neighbors. Monthly mortgage payments average $550.
Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio (HFHSA) works with low-income families who would not otherwise be able to afford a house. They partner with hardworking families in need and help them build affordable houses for themselves and their families at no interest and no profit. They are not a charity or a “handout” program, but rather we help families help themselves. By the end of 2016, they will have built 990 Habitat homes in San Antonio.
