Description
The Massachusetts Council of Churches is the state ecumenical partnership of 17 Orthodox and Protestant Churches, with 1700+ congregations. We work in association with the four Roman Catholic Diocese in the state.
We provide ways for churches throughout the state to express our unity in Christ as fully and visibly as possible through joint planning, mutual counsel, and common programming. We have five main goals:
– Educating and evangelizing for unity
– Promoting ecuemnical worship
– Creating space for dialgue
– Fostering denominational and conciliar interdependence
– Engaging social mission and prophetic justice
The Council formed in 1902, as pioneeres in the 20th century ecumenical movement. We’ve changed a lot since then. The Church has changed a lot since then. And we are changing still to stay true to our calling to help denominations, local congregations and all the bapitzed live out Christ’s promise of reconciliation.
