Description
Word of Life is a nondenominational Christian organization creating faith-defining experiences that give students and families the chance to encounter God and grow in their spiritual walks. Through high-energy camping ministries, in-depth biblical training, local church ministries, and international missions, Word of Life shares the message of salvation with those who have never heard and helps believers grow in their faith.
History
In 1933, Jack Wyrtzen helped to form an organization called XBA, or Christians Born Again, a Bible study and fellowship group for men.
In 1940, the women’s and men’s branches of the organization reorganized to form Word of Life Fellowship. Jack spoke in many churches and held evangelistic rallies from streets to stadiums. In 1946, Jack and Word of Life co-founder Harry Bollback purchased an island property in upstate New York at a heavy discount from its previous owners.
Jack and Harry felt God calling them to start a camping ministry for young people, and the Word of Life Island camp was born. Harry soon left to start the first International ministry of Word of Life, and Jack led the ministry to develop Bible Clubs in local churches (now known as Local Church Ministries).
Over the years, Word of Life Fellowship has been blessed by God to include ministries in 66 countries, camps all over the world, an Inn and Family Campground, and Bible Clubs in thousands of churches worldwide.
